Title: Templates for RHD under-dash panels
Post by: franjo_66 on February 08, 2017, 02:49:59
Hi folks

I've noticed that you can still purchase under-dash panels for the LHD versions of our cars, but no luck for us RHD colleagues.

Are there any templates or similar available that would enable me to fabricate my own. I can purchase the boards and fitting hardware, but would like to get my hands on the measurements applicable fo a RHD Automatic 230SL (no aircon)

Regards
Franjo

Hi Franjo,
The information is available here, & has been discussed before, in the last few years, and you should be able to track it down with the SEARCH function hopefully.

Here are a couple of pictures posted previously

Good luck

Paul

Would the center piece not be the same for either car? I'm also guessing that the RHD version might be a mirror image of the LHD cars.

Hi,
here you'll find templates to print for LHD cars: http://www.pagodentreff.de/diskussionsforum/t9900-schablonen-f-r-verkleidungen-unterm-armaturenbrett-230-250sl-07-67-a.html.

I took mine out to use as a template for making replacements
I noticed that I had 2 different lengths of screw: down by the pedal box they were shorter than up by the knee roll. The shorter ones are also slightly smaller gauge.
I assume this is the way they should be...

James,
I found it a real pain to refit the footwell ends of the drivers panel, ,I then slotted the holes in the lower footwell end, this made refitting much easier.

Thanks Paul

When I was removing them I was thinking that putting the new ones back in would be hell and that it'll definitely be measure multiple times before cutting

For the lefties among you who've bought replacement panels, are they shaped (convex/concave as appropriate) or are they flat and take some "manipulating" on installation?
