So as I'm putting the final touches on my 70 280sl, I'm at the sunvisors. The ones I have are ok- not great- and I took them to a shoe place and they are dying the vinyl the bamboo color they were originally (don't think I need to spend $500 on a pair of repros yet). While they are apart, I'm looking at the hardware and all of the pictures for the repros- 230,250 & 280, have chrome hardware. My hardware is painted the same color as the visor. Was this redone earlier or is this how the hardware finish should be for this year and model? If it was painted, were the attaching screws also painted to match? Thank you in advance, Rob

I have a 1967 230SL and have re-done my sun visors. The hardware should be chromed along with the screw on the visor. Mine were so bad, I replaced them with sun visors from early 1970's 114 and 115 chassis. Those use plastic hardware, so, I replaced the plastic ones with the original chromed hardware.

Rob, if your car (1970) was originally sold in North America then the sun visor hardware would be grey or creme color to match the visors. The screws are chrome. USA 250 and 280 Models after 250sl vin 2979 used the later visors and hardware. Pre vin 2979 used early chrome hardware with the early visors.

Awesome ! Thank you S. Tyler for the info. I looked at many pictures online and several were like mine-painted. It is a North American car too. Again, thank you, Rob
