I am looking for the part number (and a source?) for the metal bracket which holds the right handbrake / parking brake cable up off the muffler via a "O" ring. The stamped metal braket hangs down off the rear differential top adjustable support.
I found the "O" ring in EPC in the "brake" section but I cannot find the bracket.
thanks.

Yes-- That is the one. I appreciate the information. Has anyone sourced this in the USA?

I do not have a source in the USA, but I have this: http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=9569.msg63346#msg63346
Did you check out these EPC numbers? In Europe just the last spring washer is available, but I do not think it helps...

Interesting - - The late 230SL diagram shows the O-ring support bracket and O-ring, but the EPC parts diagram for the 280SL shows the O-ring, but not the bracket. Alfred shows the shop manual diagram with a picture of the 280SL support bracket and O-ring.
Now -- my car is a 1971 280SL which I have owned since 1978. The rear axle has not been worked on previously. The assembly paint is still on the bolt attached to the rear axle supportt bracket 7, but there is no O-ring support bracket hanging down from that rear axle top support bracket 7. What I do see is about 1/3 of the original O-ring hanging down behind the rear axle support bracket??
I guess I will do what seems right and cut something that matches the shop manual diagram from tin.

I think this is what I am going to do. I have not spot this part on my axis, to be honest I did not even know it existed (puzzled what was the oring from the EPC picture for). But it felt like something was missing that would support that heavy brake cable to prevent it from being fried on the muffler.
So yes - a piece of cut bracket and an oring is, I think the way forward.

The O-ring is available from MBZ -- It shows up in the parking brake section #42. They call it a "seal ring" (odd- I guess even they didn't know what to do with it.) It is fat O-Ring, much thicker than most, I suppose that cutting a 1/4" length of 3/4" to 1 inch hose or some such thing, would work also. The O-ring is PN 1139970241
