Title: Wheel arches
Post by: RAY on January 03, 2017, 05:55:22
When the late 280's left the factory did they all have body colour under the wheel arches as the finish or could they be ordered to have the black underseal as the finish ?

Under seal was under the paint. I think that's why they call it '' under seal. ''   :)

Ah, under seal generally means " under the car " in the Uk i always thought. Don't think we have cars over here generally with same body colour under the car.
But of course i,m probably mistaken.

I am in the process of restoring my car.  I am pretty picky about trying to replicate the factory details in any way possible so I have been looking at hundreds of photographs of low mileage original cars,  I have not seen any with black undercoating.  It was fairly common in the US for the salesman to try and sell the buyer "Rustproofing"  when they sold a car as this was a very high profit add on.  Perhaps that is what happened to your car.

Could well be, it is an American spec car, spent 43 years in Massachusetts.
