Title: Chrome Trim Identification
Post by: mistral66 on December 29, 2016, 02:27:09
I am completing an agonizing decades long restoration of my California Coupe 280SL and am now unable to identify where a piece of chrome trim fits. This curved piece is 70mm x 35mm, with holes spaced about 45mm apart.

Hi Mistral,
You should have two of them and they are screwed onto the top rail of the windscreen. The are supposed to cover the front locking pins of the soft and hard tops. They are situated right in front of your face, partly hidden by the sunvisors.

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the fast reply! With your information I was able to locate this piece in my part manual as 113-688-0339. Would I be correct in assuming that fitting these two chrome pieces requires removal of the hardtop?

Thanks,
Mike

Yes, hardtop and softop need to be removed and then you can see it surrounding the lock receiver.
To get it out you need to remove a few other pieces including the bolster.
