Title: Transmission and matching numbers ?
Post by: JChristo on November 09, 2016, 14:28:50
Gentlemen I just recently had my transmission replaced a few months ago. I was faced with question of do I keep my original transmission and rebuild at $3700 or swap over to a rebuild. I was in a rush and swapped over to the rebuild.
Now I am restoring her back to original 180g and have taken both transmission and engine out.

I have a 1969 280sl original Australian delivery so I kept the ID plate from my original transmission but unsure of what my mechanic replaced it with whether it was from a 230 or 280
Strangely enough the original ID plate read 280 SE which was correct on the data card.

I have attached a picture of the new transmission with its ID number. Can anyone tell me

1. Is my my car worth more with the original transmission in there and should I chase it down and rebuild.
2. Is having the original ID plate enough.
3. Does it matter that it was replaced.

If anyone can shed some light on this topic of discussion that would help me

Thanks for taking the time.

JC
