Title: Paint colors
Post by: TEJOLX47 on October 30, 2016, 21:52:03
Hi everyone,

I have a 1970's 280SL painted in light beige 181 with brown hardtop.
My question is about the running boards bellow the doors also called threshold panel. Which color should they be?
I have seen pictures where they are painted on the body color and many others where it is painted black.
Can you tell me what should be the correct color?
Many thanks
Francisco

If you are talking about the ribbed rubber mats on the threshold, I do not believe any were painted from the factory.  The color was in the rubber itself.  I have a horizon blue car and the mats were blue when the car was delivered.  Although most places have only the black ones, SLS has several colors of these mats.

Hi Fransisco,

It sounds to me like you are referring the rocker panels.
This has been discussed several times before, regarding the correct color on
the rocker panels. One thing that is certain is that they where never painted in bodycolor. Personally I paint them satin black, others believe they where more (dark)greyish.

See a previous discussion regarding this here:
