Hello.
Ive searched the tech manual and found the general whole car wiring schematic but Im look for a detailed diagram for the back of the ignition switch showing the specific wire and lead connections. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Also awhile back I rather hastily removed the aftermarket radio prior owner had installed. I snipped everything including what I presume was the ground as it led to a little brass colored screw that went into instrument housing. I do not have a replacement radio yet...once I reconnect the ignition switch wiring and put the dash back together, can I leave the radio area unwired or do I have to do some basic looping in order for the car to function properly?
thanks in advance. Chris

Chris, the radio wiring should have nothing to do with the ignition switch. It was originally wired from a separate wire that was run from the rt side engine compartment through the firewall. There was never a factory ground wire in place for it. Can you take any photos?

Chris, have you checked out here https://www.sl113.org/wiki/Electrical/IgnitionSwitch WRT the ignition switch. The terminals on the back of the switch should all be numbered and the wiring diagram shows those same numbers and where/what they should be connected to. You'll have to zoom in on the wiring diagram to read them.

Thanks Jordan.
Yes, I searched this part of the technical manual prior to posting but unless Im am missing something, I dont see a detailed description or diagram showing the connection points and associated wires.
Im going to ring the Classic Center Monday and see if they can send me something, possibly from a manual.

Chris,
have you looked at the wiring diagram here: https://www.sl113.org/wiki/Electrical/WiringDiagram
You can download a black&white diagram for a 280SL, or find it in your owner's manual.
But of course the better choice would be the color wiring diagrams:
https://www.sl113.org/wiki/Restricted/ColorWiringDiagrams
to match you car type.
{It would be very helpful to answer your questions knowing what model you have; why not adding the info to your signature line}
Locate the ignition switch and you'll see the terminal numbers in the diagram.
