Title: Kinder Seat DIY
Post by: studioPaGoNa on October 25, 2016, 02:39:15
Dear All

I am making the kinder seat by myself. I have done most of parts except one piece which I am struggling to sort out because I have never seen actuals.

The issue would be associated with the followings.

(1)   How much is a thickness of tapered section of the seat?
Referring to the kinder seat dimensions quoted in some threads of the forum, it is understood that the seat is required to be tapered and it is tapering up to 1mm to the end.
I would like to clarify whether my interpretation is correct and whether only 1mm could ensure a sufficient stiffness in terms of the seat.

(2)   Is the tapered section of the seat bent?
The wood which places on the tapered section has much deeper angle. I presume that the tapered section of the seat needs to be bent to some extent so as to fit the angle.

I attached the related photo for your reference.

Any advice or guidance on this particular would be grateful.

Hi Mercedes Pagoda,
I am surprised that you haven't had a reply to your question as yet. As you know these kinder seats are quite rare.  I made one for one of my Pagodas many years ago. Unfortunately, I do not have the dimentions any more.
Anyway, my answer will move your request up to the top and hopefully, you will get the answer.

Hello Chris,

I am very delighted to receive your kind support to me and I am encouraged to know that there is a person who made the kinder seat by himself.
Well done!

I am still hoping that I can manage this issue.

Just for reference, I updated a photo which shows the tapered seat pressed by the angled wood. It seems to be fine.

Very best,
Mercedes Pagoda

Do these pictures give you a little perspective? I am not sure I am interpreting your question properly but the taper drops a total of 2 5/8th's inches at the bottom point.

Hello, John

Those are very much informative for me. Beautiful!
Actually I had almost given up these days and thank you for sharing photos to me.

While I presume that I have to modify my design drawing to some extent, I have further clarifications on the photos.
It would be grateful if you don’t mind to spare time to me again.

My additionally clarifications are three set out below in association with attached photos;

(1) Does the number of 2-5/8” indicate correctly?

(2) How much length of “A” and “B”, respectively?
“B” is the length between the point beginning with angle and the end of the wood.

(3) Do the plywood “C” and “D” made of one wood?
It appears to me that two woods are combined together.

Thank you very much for your further cooperation in advance.

Very best,
Mercedes Pagoda

Mercedes pagoda,

I don't have the car at my house but will see if I can get the seat tonight and give you some measurements. Sorry for the late response as I don't check the site daily. Perhaps its best you PM me with your responses as I see those emails daily and it doesn't seem this is an issue that others are interested in much.
