Title: Bolt for hood strap top plate?

anyone know what bolt is needed to hold the top plate for the hood strap ?

I don't know if this changed from 230SL to 280SL, but my 230SL Parts List shows the following hardware needed for the whole hood strap assembly.  It does't say which stuff is for which end of the strap.

007981 004226 - Lens head screw, sheet metal (2)
000127 005203 - Lock washer (2)
007985 006134 - Lens head screw (2)
000125 006407 - Washer (1)
000127 006203 - Lock washer (2)

I would assume these are all available through MB dealer or many other parts suppliers.  Any SL specialist part supplier would be able to get you the right screws and washers by describing what you need.

Eric, The hood straps are installed with sheet metal screws, not bolts.  Sheet metal screws come in sizes rather than millimeter measurements.  Mine were stripped out, so I went to the next larger size.  I can't remember for sure but I think they were a #8 x 1/2".  Not sure.  Like most of us I have an assortment of jars with screws and bolts so I just used some from my "stock".  Screws are so cheap that you can buy a few different sizes and lengths, and see what fits.

I buy stainless screws from my neighborhood hardware store.  They're more expensive, but are good if you find a chrome finish screw missing from the interior and they are better quality than what most home centers usually stock.
