Title: Wipers and Windscreen Washer do not work
Post by: Challenger_7 on October 05, 2016, 14:28:22
Hi all
I am having issues on my 67 Pagoda 250 SL wipers and windscreen washer.
The wipers will not work from the column switch nor does the washer.
In trying to analyse the problem, I even opened the relay and here is what I discovered.
If I push the pin inside (which normally switches the wipers on), the wipers work.
Both slow and fast speed can be achieved from the column switch, But still I cannot switch it off.
If I then push the pin inside the relay, the wipers stop and park correctly.

Any idea what I should be looking for, or how to narrow down the culprit?

Thanks for your comments.

Did you check your fuses?

Hi, yes all fuses are ok. Sorry forgot to mention that. Flashers ok, hi beam flashing also ok.

Cheers

It might be the relay or a grounding problem. Clean the brown ground wire contact by the relay - nothing to loose .

Thank you Dr. Benz :))
Problem solved!!
I spent a few minutes yesterday to check up the car before taking it out for a drive.
I cleaned the relay ends as well as the socket side and nothing happened.
So I checked by introducing an external ground wire, and everything went into action.
I also discovered the windscreen water pump to be frozen, so took that apart and cleaned it and it was perfect again.
I left it like that for now (external ground) to discover where the ground wire connects to the body - or takes earth from into this as I suspect poor ground contact due to rust or paint? Once solved, I will remove the external ground wire.

Any Idea where I should look?
Many thanks again fro your guidance.

Cheers
