TRYING TO LOCATE PART...MERCEDES KEEPS SENDING FIITING THAT IS TOO SMALL. I HAVE A 64 EURO MODEL 23OSL.
wHAT HAS BEEN DESCRIBED TO ME:
fitting(with seal) that screws into the engine block where the tachometer drive comes out of the block.
underneith #1 sparkplug.
Problem, oil leaking where tachometer cable adapts to engine block.
I really need help, as the vehicle is just sitting there.

jackson,
Cap into which the tacho cable screws: 127 060 0046
Seal in this cap: 007 997 7346 (Looks quite like a valve stem seal)

and ensure that crank case is not pressurising - is the breather pipe on the valve cover clogged up?

I am being told that they made a convcersion housing and that is the part that keeps coming in...It does not fit. Also, trying to order a seal for the existing part...I am worried that that will also be the conversion size! They are telling me it will be lots of $ for the conversion and all I really need is the seal or the housing.
What should I do?
i can send photos of the piece if that would help/

Yes, that would help. Pictures are worth a thousand words and who wants to read that much? :D
- What "conversion" are you talking about?
- Did you see the part numbers in the URL link below?

I had a lot of oil around that fitting and previous owners and their mechanics applied lots of sealant there. But the source of the oil was from the end of the control rod for the fuel injection pump. There should be an oil tight cap there. The fitting for the tach drive has O-ring seal - look in the BBB. Your injection pump should have it's own oil supply and a dipstick. Check that: Fuel leakage may increase the level.
