Title: What is this under the steering wheel?
Post by: col320ce on July 10, 2016, 01:06:23
Is it part of some after market alarm maybe?
Thanks for any help...

Looks like an old style microphone plug in?? Is there a bull horn mounted under the hood somewhere, so you can indicate you are coming through?!?

Don't think it is original. Can you trace the wire to where it is connected?

It traces back to some wiring that I think is an after market alarm ...
I want to remove it but don't want to cause problems.

Sort of looks like a supplemental power plug of some sort.maybe for a radar detector or a CB radio!
I am pretty sure it isn't alarm related as most alarms of the era would have been pretty small diameter wire and lots of it.

Could be an old pull style switch that is missing its knob and shaft. Any added ancillaries on the car like fog lights?

No fog light or bull horn.
I'll go upside down tomorrow and see if I can figure it out and likely remove it.
I'm replacing the speedo with a kph one and will replace all the globes at the same time so I'll pull the tachometer too to create a little more space to see what's up.

Pulled it all out. Looks like it was part of the alarm... Not sure what it was for though.
