Title: Y-shaped coolanttube
Post by: 450sl on May 14, 2016, 14:28:35
On my 70-280 manual there is a Y shaped pipe that has some internal corrosion , so need replacement.

I have been looking at the partsbook for a partsnr and at various vendorsites but no luck to find .

If someone can give a source / partsnumber i would be a happy chappy.

Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark, I own a 1969 280SL manual, the mild steel coolant pipes on mine were also badly corroded and the cost of buying and shipping them to New Zealand was prohibitive so I got them made in stainless steel tube.  Andy Burns put me onto the people who made them here in Auckland. If you can't get a replacement part you should be able to get a local stainless steel fabricator to make you one.

I purchased one from the MB Classic Center in the USA for a reasonable price. They should have it also at the German Classic Center. Or have it made with a local blacksmith is another possibility depending on price, but I recommend using the factory original part for peace of mind.
