Mine is totally trashed out. Removed it - some crazy soldering all over. Can I find a new one? part # 000-542-16-25

Michael, The dimmers on the 113 cars were never available seperately. Your best bet would be to find a good used gauge cluster with working rheostat to remove. My suspicion is the solder is from an attempt to bypass the dimmer in order for the dash lamps to work. You may also be able to rebuild your existing. See link

The rheostat is listed as available from MB. See http://partssearch.mercedes-benz-classic.com/parts/A0005421625.

That's right, M-B Classic recently introduced a renewed production batch of this spare part.

I dont think that is a w113 part or number. The housing and mounting arrangement look completely different. Unless theres some new way of mounting to the gauge housing.

By pass it and don't look back. The dash lights will burn full bright but that's not very bright to begin with.
