Pretty day yesterday with the Poppies, the California state flower, in full bloom after our recent rains.

Lovely Pic John.

By the way, my 1969 was delivered with bumper guards.  I see that yours does not have.  I thought these were part of the US specification as I don't remember ordering them as an accessory.  They were listed on the order confirmation as a separate item ($15.00!!).

Hi Ralph, No bumper over rider option was listed for my car at the time of ordering and I believe they came standard on US models a bit later. It is a very early '69 model and was also delivered without head rests. On my window sticker it lists "Allowance for omission of head retraint $71.00".

Hi John,
a "very earl 1969 model"?? Wasn't you car built in June 1968, that is, before the model year 1969 started?
I always thought the CA DMV screwed up registering it as a 1969.

Hello Alfred, it was built in late June but by the time the boat docked it was September. As I recall, MBUSA started their model year switchover sometime during the 1st part of Sept. and that was when the clock started, hence it was registered here in CA as a 1969. The window sticker did not show the model year in those days but the hand written Bill of Sale does. Simpler times, for sure :)

OK, John, now I got it.
I was confused because my 280SL was built in September 1968 and is registered here as a 1968.
According to Engelen for Daimler the model year 1969 started on Oct. 1, 1968:
Ab Fahrgestellendnummer           Einsatzdatum              Änderungen
5585                                           01.10.68                     Eintrag des Baujahres 1969

Just a bit more trivia!  ;)

Enjoy your Spring time driving.

Hi Alfred,

Is this data shown on the Data Card? I'm just wondering.

Cheers,

Dieter

Dieter,
not on the data card, but in Engelen's book. Do you have it?
