Title: Paint Hood / Bonnet underside with it installed or not.

I am in the process of painting a 280SL.  I had removed the hood/ bonnet. I notice that parts of it are only covered in primer. Especially on the front underside. Also it almost looks like when painte the radiator must have been installed as there is a shadow of it outlining the primer.  I am trying to replicate what was original. I can paint underside either way  Removed or not. But what is the original way and is primer supposed to be visiable or was this hood replaced and someone did a crap job.?

That probably indicates a repaint. I think the hoods may have been attached when painted, as the hinges usually appear to have been painted over. Seems the same with the doors.
The radiator would definitely not have been in for the original paint job.

Thanks Dave. I know the car has been repainted once. It could be during repaint they took the hood off for primer but for final color they put it back on. Hence I see unpainted grey primer.
