I recently bought these Mercedes rear brake shoes part #110 423 04 08 as they were represented as a correct version for W113 230SL. Now that I have pulled the drums on 2 different 230SL's I can see that the SL ones are steel and these ones are cast alloy. Could these have been used on early 230SL or were they mistakenly represented?
Can anyone identify these?
Many Thanks
Peter

I have never seen brake shoes that look like those ones. They kind of look at bit like 190SL front shoes but not really that close either. They're not 113 rear shoes and if they are, they're something completely different than I've ever seen. Where did you get those things?

Peter: These things look familiar: the handwritten numbers on the box look like Beck Arnley or Worldparts and I've seen this type of shoe before. They may have come out of my shop though the business was sold a couple years ago and I no longer have catalogs at my fingertips. I will research and share whatever I come up with. Can you share, either on here or in a PM where they came from? Definitely not 113. Jon

First three digits usually are the chassis (or engine) first used on. In this case W110 Heckflosse?

It looks like there may be two version of rear brake shoes on W110 W111 but part # is different.

Maybe I am overcautious when it comes to brakes but the concept of an aluminum shoes just doesn't sit well. Not only do you have the issue of greater expansion/ contraction stressing the glue and the increase in the likelihood of corrosion popping the lining off but an incident like a lining getting loose might result in a shattered shoe and loss of hydraulics on the rear brakes.

I don't believe that they are rear brake shoes - more likely fronts. Brake lining is no more prone to separation on the aluminium shoes than it would be on steel ones. I've seen lots of late model cars with brake pads that were coming loose or falling off so backing material is only one factor.
Once the backing material rusts or corrodes under the brake material then your brakes are unsafe anyways.

OK, my BeckArnley catalog surfaced: the shoes, if the changeover of numbers is correct, fit "MB 190C,DC 61/62 220B 61/63 220SB 61/62 Coupe 220SEB 61/62 R" The "R" stands for rear. No application for a 113, but our 110/111/112 cousins will be interested. Jon
