Title: Cylinder pics - verdict?
Post by: Jowe on March 17, 2016, 07:21:01
I've bought a cheap endoscope inspection camera and here are my first shots in the cylinders. I also opened the oil filler cap and shot the first cam lobes. Any verdict about the cylinder and cam condition based on these pics? NGK BP7ES plugs. #1 is wet. Leaking injector?

Looks like you can still see the cylinder wall cross hatch in cylinder 5. Cylinder 1 looks excessively clean. The plug being "wet", are you sure its fuel and not coolant? The rest look in good shape. Yes you may want to check the fuel injectors for leakage and holding pressure. The cam lobes look ok but the 2 wear mark strips down the middle of one look questionable. It could just be the picture though. Bore scopes can produce weird shadows that aren't really there. Pulling the valve cover is easy and will allow you to check your valve adjustment clearance and grt a better look at all cam lobes.

Make sure your spark plug wire ends and plug wires are up to specs.  Lack of spark will leave unburned fluids in the combustion chambers.

#1 is a little concerning.  Clean edges of the piston crown usually mean(to me) that the rings are allowing oil in vapor form to enter around the piston walls.  When the piston travels down the oil vapors blow by the rings and swirl up  around the piston crown and clean the piston edges. Verify spark and fuel the I would perform a cylinder leak down test both dry and with a small amount of oil in the cylinder.  If the leak down test shows better readings after adding the oil you have leaky rings on that 1 hole.

Thank's for the suggestions. I suspect the #1 as well. I will do a leak down test as propsed. I will adjust the valves nextcoming week so I will also inspect the cam shaft etc. Stay tuned...
