Title: door hinges

I understand door hinges are not to be painted.  Is this all 3 hinges (per door) or just the 1 hinge with roller? A picture would be very helpful.

Hinges are painted but not the roller door stop "hinge".

If you look at Authentic Classics website they have some pretty nice original cars with lots of photos.  General thought is that the hood, doors and trunk lid are on the car when painted with "Dummy" door checks used to hold the doors open.  The hinges, bolts etc should all be painted.  After paint the dummy checks are removed and the aluminum ones are installed.

Be sure to understand the terminology.
Hinges are the devices around which the door pivots or indeed, "hinges".
The check strap is the device that "checks" as in "stops" the door movement both in terms of preventing over-rotation of the hinge so as to allow the door skin to contact the front fender(wing) and so as to provide periodic stops so that the door will remain open when the vehicle is parked on an incline.
A failed check strap can lead to a door swing shut through wind or gravity at the exact moment that your legs are dangling across the sill. It's very painful!

Hinges are painted, check straps are not. (Although they are on some models that came after the 113).
