Title: Baffled by a wiper problem
Post by: catchersmit on December 23, 2015, 22:01:16
My first post as a member! My 64 SL has a wiper problem I can not track down. Motor and wipers run fine when jumped to the battery. Changed out the relay, although old one clicked when stalk was pushed. I cleaned the ground wires near the relay. Cleaned all the contacts on all connections. Power through the fuse checks out. I think motor getting power because when I plug the connector back in at the motor, the wipers park. Anything I missed? Enjoying this site and loving my car!

Sort of sounds like a ground problem. You might pull the back cover off the plug, and with it plugged into the motor, jump a ground wire to the ground in the plug. If everything starts to work, go looking for a bad ground connection.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Also noticed that the relay has 5 connections, but the plug only 4. Assume its the correct relay, since the old one had the same. Wonder what that 5th connector is for.

Yes this is correct. Only one side of the latching relay is used.
