I need to replace my lost gas cap for 230sl. I see a vented cap non key for $30.
I can buy a repo key cap for $110. Have tried this type once and it did not lock. That seems to be the norm for repo parts...buy two to get one that works.
Please advise if vented or non vented is correct for a 66 230sl.
Thanks

Take a deep breath and purchase the correct one from MB.

And, it's not vented.

Hello
Not sure if they have sorted out the problems with the original gascaps. I have seen a few myself and heard of other who had failures of the MB
supplied ones, bought here in Europe in the last couple of years. They basically "fall apart". Anyone else seen this happen?
Regards,
Hans

Yeah, the cork seal especially is not very good anymore and "falls apart". The gas cap itself is ok, although a very tight fit (hence the falling apart of the cork seal). I always check it twice for fear of not having put it on correctly.

I swallowed hard and ordered the correct one, to go with the correct tank that I swallowed even harder for....
I'll be feeling a bit hard done by if it falls apart!

The outer chromed part seperates from the rest of the mechanism.
My local MB dealer had two broken ones returned from customers that he showed me.
Hopefully they have fixed it by now.
