I want to replace a portion of my rockers, the rust in them is minimal but it is there. I was thinking of getting these:

Has anybody used these? Is the profile ok or do they need mega work to get them to fit?
I could get pieces made to suit but that would take a while and be expensive, these are cheap and quick....However if they don't fit that makes them expensive too!

"Mit Fehler" means they have faults - not specified though

There is a panel manufacturer/supplier in Poland see in our Suppliers list. Has a very good reputation and prices.

Thanks guys. I guess if they advertise them as having problems they must be really bad...I think with that information I'll wind up getting some made.
I have sent an email to Poland and am waiting a reply with prices. I hadn't seen there were prices on the forum page. The frustrating part is that I only need a small portion of the available panels, I could do with a bit of the inner fender but not the whole thing.
I'll see what Poland comes back with but I think I'll make a pattern tomorrow and get my guy to fold me a couple up.

Scott,
If its minimal and only in a few spots maybey you can cut those out and weld just in that area?
-
It's fairly common for only the ends of the rockers to have rust damage. These can be spot repaired but you will often find that the jack ports are also rusty and you will need to replace them as well; part number for the bracket is 113 610 11 31
K&K makes the complete frame rail with cover. If you have rust at either end of the frame rail you probably have a certain amount running along the bottom most portion at which point I would replace the whole rail. You will never get a stronger or safer repair than that.

When you press for the English translation it says "with repair"
I'm assuming they mean - this repair section is to be used in conjunction with the good components of the original section? (cant imagine they would advertise something and state it has faults).

I used the replacement cills from SLS[ the ones which go from the join on the outside to approx 2 inches up inside the car, ie above the floors because my floors were rotten. They fitted just fine.
-
Thanks for all the feedback.
I am in the process of finding someone to make a set of repair sections locally, if they don't come up trumps I'll maybe give them a try. I cut some inspection holes in mine and they don't look as bad inside as I had imagined they might, see my restoration post for photos. I think repair sections will be just fine.

Those looks nice. But unless you canmake sure you dont warp the frame replacing those i personally would repair what you have. But thats me. I try and save what I can. They do look nice though.

All part of the fun!

Thanks Shvegel, I have ordered a pair of these from the ebay seller. He is dropping them off to my guys in Michigan today all being well.
The annoying thing is I have already ordered a pair of the repair sections from SLS, these were supposed to be delivered last week but UPS damaged the parcels and returned them to Germany before they even got to me so I still haven't seen them. I got an email from SLS saying they would send them out again but I don't think they have as yet. I am reluctant to cancel them in case there is a problem with these ones so it looks like I may soon have rockers coming out my ears...
These complete repair pieces will make life easier in the long run even though I don't plan on using the whole thing, just a portion of it, but all my jacking points need just a little bit of repair so if I can do the whole job with the new ones already installed I think that will be better, guess I can always resell the SLS ones. Using genuine MB is infinitely preferable and these are working out around half price so that is OK, at £400 each it was a bridge too far for the corrosion I have.

The SL shop is the last place on Earth that I would buy anything. Just saying.
-
I have only had VERY good service from SLS.
-
SLS and the 'SL shop' are two different companies ;)
-
My next door neighbour asked !The SL Shop! to sell his 500sl (107 model) the relationship very quickly went down hill with there management, especially after the sale.
Like he said,! Never Again!.
-
It was SLS I used not the SL shop.
The rockers arrived, SLS service was very good, UPS not so much...The panels look good, a slightly different profile from original in that the bends are sharper than the factory piece, but they would certainly do the job.
I bought a pair of the original ones off ebay that Shvegel pointed out so will wait until they arrive before I decide which way to go and then sell what's left over. I suspect I will use the originals.
