Title: Radio Problems
Post by: John on November 03, 2015, 19:54:30
Becker Radio sounds great with engine not running, with engine on very loud noise or buzzing noise.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi,
you should check if your car (alternator, ignition coil, etc.) has appropriate anti-noise capacitors and correct ground straps. Alternatively or in addition to these elements you could install a noise filter behind your radio.

I'm having poor reception issues as well where signal comes and goes when driving.  I went so far as to purchase a new (old) becker (and I liberated one from an abandoned car) and will try some bench testing.   I was just wondering if it could be my antenna.    I always thought that FM was picked up by the radio itself but I get nothing unless I extend the radio and even then its marginal.

Has anyone found a marked difference by replacing their antenna.

To pick up FM signals the radio needs an antenna, either a built in one with amplifier (which old car radios did not have) or an external one that can be pulled out to the required length for best reception.
This post should explain it: http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=13698.msg93011#msg93011
