Title: cable for opening Soft Top Cover
Post by: NicholasP on October 26, 2015, 04:11:29
Gentlemen;    If the cable for opening the soft top lid only functions on one side, what to do?    The lever will open the drivers side, however will not open on the passengers side in order to put the soft tip down.   Car purchased 4 months ago and lid opened fine to put the soft top up.   First time trying to put the top down and lid releases only on one side?    Anyone with ideas, I would appreciate.    Thank You:    NIcholas

I think there is a hole in the back of the soft top compartment, where you can access the cable and pull on the side that is stuck to release it.
Ive also pull on the stuck side to release the softop although I'd go with that as a last resort, ie if the cable broken.

If the cable will open the driver's side it's not likely to be broken which is a good thing.

I ran into this problem, essentially.
You can see where the cables join in the trunk on a moving plate, center of the trunk.
If one side is "locked" you need to get a stiff J-Hook; my mechanic made his out of brake tube, which is steel. Insert it into the space where the trunk hinge is, and you need to fish around to find and then pull the lever to pop the offending side up. Once it's up, and you look inside, the problem should be obvious.

In my case, it was the driver's side that was the issue. The nut on the end of the shaft that hold the lever/cable had fallen off.

This is to illustrate what Michael writes; measurements in mm:s and they are approximate. The nice round knob is of course optional...
Once you have such a tool you can open the offending lid catch in seconds.
