The Great Alpine Road is a route that goes from the Gippsland Coast in Victoria, Australia (where I live) up into the mountains. A great drive.
At the beginning of the route there is a huge sign - must be 7 feet long and features a superb Pagoda photo. Registration number KAA635. Does it belong to a member?
I had the sun right behind the sign when I took the photo hence the strange angle.
Has anyone a better example of a Pagoda sign? ;D ;D

Nope...... I haven't :)
Exactly where is it - near which town?

Must be a new sign, I have never seen it before and I lived down that way for 13 years and drove up that road many times. Is it at Bruthen?
-
Hi Rob and Garry - the sign is just at the beginning of the Alpine Way, leaving Bairnsdale on the first hill going to Bruthen.
I don't do that road too often - but it looks like it has been there for a year or so.

Hi Richard.
You are indeed correct. My parents live 200m from the beginning of the Alpine road in Bairnsdale for more than 20 years and the sign is indeed a kilometer further on.
In fact I was visiting my parents in Bairnsdale last weekend and drove my Pagoda from Bairnsdale up the Alpine Road to Bruthen (25k) past this sign last Saturday!!
My father says the sign has been up there for a few years now - but he could not remember exactly how long but certainly not for 50 years.
The VicRoads branch in Bairnsdale would have been responsible for the sign.
Here is a snap of me doing 74mph at 4,000rpm driving to Bairnsdale.

Mark - I have often looked at my speedo and tacho on the same trip - doing very similar.
A wonderful road for a fast drive. Not too much traffic and plenty of dual lanes. I do it at least a couple of times a year.

Good one Mark.
I take it you must have one of those Go Pro camera's mounted to you head ......probably takes photo's on voice activation? ;D
It's OK - us Pagoda drivers are generally a tame lot. Whenever I jump on the Porsche 928 forum there is always some guy trying hit a new top end speed limit with a photo or video as proof.
.............here's one I took 2 years ago as a passenger in a 4 cylinder, diesel, Audi Station Wagon - on the Autobahn of course. Why so fast? ....we were in a hurry to get to the Mercedes museum (fact!).
