Hello All,
Just joined the group and I am looking forward to interacting and sharing working experiences on my Pagoda.
I have a 1971 280sl, Red with Black interior, 70k miles, US version I guess, Auto, Rear window defroster, factory AC, larger leather seats???
I have been told that there were only 750 of this type build but never knew exactly if this was true or why it was true. (US version, option pkg.?) Any clues?
Also I am looking for one red arrow (plastic? for dash / defroster / heater) Any one know of a place I could purchase?

Welcome aboard Mark!
You kinda threw me off with the larger seats! Do you mean larger than a 230sl or larger than a stock 280sl? Your data card will solve any questions you may have about your car. If you do not have one you can request one from MB directly. The codes will fill in all the blanks such as options, what market the carwas destined for etc.. As for the arrow I am not sure where you can get it. You may have to buy a used center dash piece. These can often be found on ebay. You may also want to contact MB salvage yards. Hope this helps!

Hi Mark,
Sounds like you have a nice car. The US version has little vertical bumperettes on the front and rear bumpers. If US you will have round sealed headlights and an emission system. Let us know if you have any questions.

I was told that the all leather interior with the option package that i have included front seats that were larger than the "normal" leather seat package. (A local Benz repair guy told me)
Thanks for the rest of the info i will pursue. Regarding the data card - just ask a dealer? quote:

Do a search on here for "Data Card"
You basically contact the MB Classic Center and they'll send you a card with all sorts of strange numbers on it
We then have hours of endless fun diagnosing what they mean for you.
However, with true German efficiency, everything that was on your car when it left the factory is on that car, inc colours, trim and the like. It's all in number codes
If I recall, AC was an after factory option added in the US. It's very rare over here.

Ben,
When reading posts, you can typically see a country listed under the user's name (if they included it in their profile). Then for more detail, click on the name of the person who posted. You can then see their profile.
