Hi all, I've just landed over from the 190SL forum to help a friend. Those that like all things SL, this is my car http://forums.190slgroup.com/showthread.php?7219-190SL-Project-(I-have-no-idea-what-I-m-doing!!!!) (http://forums.190slgroup.com/showthread.php?7219-190SL-Project-(I-have-no-idea-what-I-m-doing!!!!))
My friends car is a manual 230sl, and it's based in the uk, in London. The part he is having trouble with is pictured below, it's the solenoid off the gearbox/transmission. I'd be very grateful for any supply sources or advice?

Stu,
Can you describe the part and maybe part number on it.
To me that is the kickdown solenoid for an automatic gearbox.
Manuals dont have any wires coming out, except for the reverse light and some switch for the post 1968 emissions control.
This solenoid sits on top of the automatic transmission behind the bellhousing.

PS: maybe no reply because the title is confusing.
230SL and then to 190SL.

I'm not aware of any solenoid on a manual transmission. As Walter says, there is a pressure control solenoid on the automatics, but you said this was a manual trans, right?
-
This is most of a three position solenoid assembly from an automatic transmission.

I am wondering if the manual transmission has some sort of an after market over-drive ???

You are all right... My apologies, moment of madness... I don't know why I said manual, it is indeed auto.
It is the the three stage solinoid... I've exhausted everyone I know and no joy. Does anyone know a place to restore or replace the,?
Many thanks for the replies also
