Title: Blow out the Candles
Post by: 49er on September 19, 2015, 02:23:36
Well Sept 18 has rolled around again so that means my little Pagoda had a "Birthday" today as it turned 47 years old. I have some 60s music on my iPhone and played it through the bluetooth mini "Boom Box" on a ride today and I pretended (poorly) to be 24 again. 3 more until the big "Five-oh" which is really hard for me to believe. Car ran great as usual and it was a nice day (for a change) for a ride and I look forward to many more in this fabulous automobile.
The summer has been awful this year as I am sure many of you have heard about the fires here in California and the continuing drought. For that reason the SL has spent a lot of time this summer in the garage covered up. We were not threatened by these fires but close enough that smoke was was thick enough to block out the sun. The rains, if any, can't come soon enough.

Congrats John!

I feel your pain as we in Texas routinely go through long droughts. Be careful what you wish for though. After 5 years or so of drought, we received 30" of rain in one month this Spring. Sounds good, but then it dried up and hasn't rained now in over 75+ days. Crazy weather! Hopefully you will get some rain but in moderation.

My Pagoda reached 50 on Wednesday.  She won’t be happy I forgot Bella’s birthday whilst travelling back from PUB.

Nice "shed" Garry!  ;D
Is this the infamous back-strengthening stone wall?

John, look at it this way: nothing rained on your 47th parade.

Very true Alfred  :) and congrats to you Garry. As I have said before, I think these cars will out live us all.

My 230 SL will be 50 on Oct 8.  I'll have to have a good drive before I put it away for the winter.  The car is running great after the ride to PUB last weekend.

When I get home in a couple of days I will give it a belated run for its birthday.  And I agree John, I have no doubt that my car will out live me by a long shot.

Alfred, that is just a small (6 Tons) court yard dry wall I did in a couple of weekends.  There are another 110 tons that have been done around the house over the past 5 years with about 10 tons left to finish off the whole thing this summer!!

Congratulations to you all Gentleman … especially to you John for getting it originally and still taking TLC of it "Provo I say!!!

Mine will have a birthday in December (I think, have to check the data card), we will celebrate it in my garage that I plan to make an extension to my man cave :) it will be a project in progress.

John I plan to attend a Birthday Party of my former partner in California next February, time permitting I might stop by and help you re-light the candles again over a beer or two :)

That would be great Rolf! Sacramento has quite a few great Micro Breweries now or we could always enjoy a Weihenstephan or two.

By the way Garry, I met a mate of yours, Bill who has currently advertised his 280SL for sale.  He said he sold his 280SL to you which apparently happened to be your first W113 which was some years ago before you really got into the Merc scene.  :D

That was the Dark Olive 1969 280SL 5 speed that they nor I knew was a genuine 5 speed until I got the data card.  It is the one that is published in Michael Salemi’s Pagoda Style book.

Its still around but now Blue and in the hands of another member here.
