Sorry Bob!  I just can't see paying $340.00 + dollars[:0] for a 35+ year old tire and wheel   for a W113. :?

I smiled when I saw this thread and the eBay listing.  My '67 230SL has the exact same tire in the trunk and a white(050) wheel.  The only problem is that my tire barely holds air!!  It's unbelievable that a buyer would go ape for a tire that's old, dry, and dangerous to use.

Unless it's a show car and in need of an original spare for the show points, being the high bidder will be for the person who likes to part with his $$.

As far as the point system is concerned I believe that all 5 tires must match.

Yes, indeed you need all 5 tires to match else you get deducted points...I have a different spare and it cost me.

Yeah, they are nuts to spend that kind of money on something that belongs in a museum and is unusable...but then again, people are paying all kinds of money for musty old "original" fitted luggage.  Would you put YOUR clothes in them or check them on the airplane after you drive the 113 to the airport?

Yesterday I bid small increments on a much needed fuel pupm cover, but the first bid had a high maximum.  It looks like there was all kinds of activity when it was just me bidding a few dollars at a time.  The fuel pump cover stands at $80 now (started at $20) and the seller can thank me for getting it that high for him!  But with shipping it isn't that great a deal over getting it brand new--even though this one is supposed to be.

WAIT GUYS!!!  IT GETS WORSE!

The rim is a 15" rim (??!!) with a 14" tire(??!!)  Then the seller allows "local pickup only" meaning you have to go to Dearborn, Michigan (apparently the seller's or tires location)to get it they won't ship it!  Further, they charge $25 to "arrange" the local pickup.  Lastly--the high bidder--clearly someone who must know exactly what they are doing or be completely clueless--is located in BELGIUM!

Since I'm close to Dearborn, I'll charge only a modest $50 "convenience fee" to go and ship the tire for him! (freight collect, of course!)  :)

Well..
..for money like that, I think I'll just have to list my spare and take my chances on ever having to use it...
Might even bring more $$$, as mine is original SIZE.....

For what it is worth, I took a stroll down to my Local Mercede-Benz dealer and saw a new 05 SL 65 on the show room floor. for the price of a house $211,000 you too can be the latest talk at your friendly golf club and have the car Valet be your best friend.
I say this because the wheels & tires on this SL 65 have to amount to $6000 or more.  What kind of person buys one of these cars any way?

I think the text of the listing is wrong as to rim size.  The pictures show that the rim is a 14 inch rim.

Bob, I wouldn't mind having one of the new SL's.  The only thing I don't like about the car is the lighting arrangement.  If the layout were more like the new E class I think it would look much better.

A car's looks can sometimes be enhanced by its surroundings take this W107 for example.  The 107 isn't all that exotic but this looks pretty good! :D

Michael, I've been told there's an exception to that rule if the spare is the actual original spare.
