Title: Suggestions on Visiting the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart
Post by: nate on September 14, 2015, 22:23:37
I'm going to be in Munich for 8 days starting September 21st to take in Oktoberfest and I'm thinking about taking the train to Stuttgart to visit the Museum for a diversion and a day trip.  Any advice from the group on what I should absolutely see, what's not worth the time, etc. while at the Museum?  Is 3-4 hours enough time to spend at the Museum?  Appreciate any suggestions.

Prost,

Nate

Four hours are fine for the Museum, I recommend you also take the factory tour near by. You do need however a full day if you do. It is one of the worlds largest auto assembly plans and the Customer Delivery Centre. People from all over he world pick up there car there under the Euro MB Delivery program.

Read about it here ===>>> http://www.daimler.com/dccom/0-5-1037141-1-1657558-1-0-0-0-0-0-108-7145-0-0-0-0-0-0-0.html

When I was there in 2009 I also saw the Porsche Musum, a Porsche dealership right across the street as well as the near by Mercedes Benz Oldtimer Museum.  If you don't see the factory you should have time for the Porsche Museum.

Have a great trip!

I would support Dieter's comments. The MB museum is great as well as the tour. Keep in mind that the Euro Delivery center is in Sindelfingen. Which is outside the city, probably 30-40 minutes by cab (in that range somewhere). You may want to check if a reservation is needed for the factory tour.

The Porsche museum is excellent, if you are going to go to Stuttgart, it is a must see. Great architecture.

While you are in Munch, be sure to make time for the Deutsches Museum.  It's too big to see all at once, but the transportation museum has the first Motorwagen that Karl Benz built.  The Mercedes Museum has a perfect replica, but the Deutsches has the original.  The rest of the exhibit from planes and trains to other significant cars is worth an afternoon.

I've been to the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart twice and would go again.  My MBCA membership card was good for free entry.

Thank you, these are all great suggestions!  May try to hit up the Porsche museum in Stuttgart as well since I recently acquired my Uncle's 1964 356C Coupe.

The Classic Center in Fellbach is a Mercedes owner requirement as well.

Meilenwerk is classic car heaven in the old Boeblingen airport terminal and hangers south of Sindelfingen. There's a car themed hotel, restaurants and the most amazing classic car display from many dealers with millions of euros worth of "oldtimers". Not to be missed!

Kind of way off topic but I lived in Stuttgart in the late 70's early 80's as an AF brat,  Is the Army base still there?  I only returned once but was still too young to appreciate the car history and factories/museums nearby.  I just wanted to Ski the slopes, sorry for de-railing your post, great memories from living in Stuttgart even if it was only for 4 years.
