Title: Is there a Buyer's Guide?
Post by: d100clubcab on September 13, 2015, 17:02:33
I've loved the look of these Pagodas for years.
Now I'm finally looking at a few 230SL (1964-1967) all are drivers in various states but having a hard time discerning what's the difference between a $25k car and a $40k car
I'm only looking at these on the internet so am not sure if the $25k car is a scam.

Thanks.

Normally the main difference is the price.

But yes. Try the Tech Manual, linked at the top of the page!

Looking is usually free,
Buy carefully, and research the buyers guide here, and do not buy the first one you see.
Buying can be expensieve, but cheaper than hurridly  buying a wrongun -

Good luck, & enjoy the research

Paul

Normally the main difference is the price.

To explain further, price is not a strong indicator of quality nor should it be used to differentiate between two otherwise similar cars.

Read lots, and if you stumble across one you like, upload a ton of pictures and as much info as poss to one of those photo sides like photobucket and post a link here asking questions. You'll get lots of advice, I'm sure. Good luck.

There is a buyers guide book written by Chris Bass with the help of Roger Edwards.
Should be available on ebay or Amazon

Thanks guys/gals.
After reading through posts until Page 2 I found my answer.
I was looking at some Beverly Hills Car Club vehicles as well as some found on autotrader classics.
Upon further inspection of pics on those sites the cars showed a great deal of rust and body damage.
I will continue to read up and search for the "right one"

Purchase the best you can afford, then go from there. After that you can upgrade by managing one or two projects each year.

As others pointed out, check out our Tech Manual good stuff in there and when you find it go look at it very close or have one of our Members go and be your eyes.

Good Luck and good hunting!
