In the technical manual, there is a link for "Engineering Tags" I think you will find what you are looking for. You list a 1970 280 SL, and most of the pictures are for a later car.
-
that's a start, but the others -
"Oil Level"
-
Vorsicht
Bosch
Verunreinigten
Gefrier
Nach Gebrauch...
Attention High Pressure....
Caution Only USe Oils.....
Achtung!............
-
Please note that decals varied to some degree between US delivery cars, and Euro version.
Attached two sheets with markings, suitable for US Pagoda cars.
However, some are not for Pagoda; they were used on earlier and other M-B types of cars.
No 7, 17, 18 and 19 in the sheets. No10 I think is for later cars than W113, also
Vorsicht
Bosch Ignition coil (which btw was black from factory)
Verunreinigten Filter instruction. Not for Pagoda
Gefrier Blue star to the low left on windshield. Indicates antifreeze filled from factory. The type here (No19) was for earlier Mercedes cars
Nach Gebrauch... on metal sleeve on late type jack (not the spiral threaded one w separate handle)
Attention High Pressure.... Coolant header tank
Caution Only USe Oils.....
Achtung!............ Refers to spark plug specifications

The oil level decal is on the inside of the trunk lid. Mine is positioned in the upper triangle as you look at the open trunk lid from the back of the car. It is to the left of the tire pressure label. This is the white decal that shows an outline of the engine, with "Oil" and a red arrow at the top of the decal pointing to the top of the engine.
Check the translation of Verunreinigten.
Hans, the blue star - this is the anti freeze label. The comments I have read on the site put this in the lower left portion of the windshield. To be clear, on a US car, it would be on the driver's side??

Of course, I have amended my posting! Thanks Jonny. Temporary confusion in my mind

Men - this is very helpful, are there any pics of these?
-
Am traveling now, but just wait until next week, and I bet we can get you all kinds of photos from PUB!
One other tag is the small white triangle for the rear axle gear oil change. This goes on the A pillar on the driver's side, left or right depending on the car, RHD or LHD.

Just found this post, but don't see where the pictures got posted. I'm trying to find the correct locations (on an early European 230SL) for the following decals:
#6 in the photo above
#8 in the photo above
and the silver colored (black lettering) decal that warns against storing the soft top damp.
Pictures would be very helpful if available.
-
What are you referring to with the:
#6 in the photo above
#8 in the photo above
???
-
Anybody who could offer some help would be great! I have some decals that someone gave me. I have a 67 230sl US version.
Please reply with a comment where each numbered decal is supposed to be....or if it isn't even supposed to be on a 230sl.
Thank you
-
Did you have a look in the Tech Manual, Its all there with photos on where they each go.! ;)

-
Yes I did Garry...many of those are not shown
-
Sorry Travis, to clarify what I meant.
The Tech Manual lists and shows with photographs all the decals that the cars had. If you have purchased a generic set of labels then you will have more than the 230Sl’s labels which looks like what you have there.

Got it. Thanks!

I am restoring the engine bay of my car and was wondering where can I buy a complete set of (reproductions, I suppose, of) decals, including those for the emission control relays, for a late 280SL? Many thanks.
Lakis

The usual suspects apply
Bud's Benz
Authentic Classics
Miller's
For the emission control relays, be sure to get the proper ones for manual or automatic trans.
I have purchased some single items for my 280 SL, and the quality from Bud's or AC was fine. Have not used Millers so unable to comment on their items.

Johnny, my label numbers referred to the pictures/numbers shown on reply #3 above. I have two packages of labels at this point. The shop that restored my car lost the set I gave them 15+ years ago so I collected my car with none installed. They then forwarded me a set, but they were all in English and not correct for my early European model. I then purchased a set from AC that are supposedly correct for my car. I have (with a lot of help) figured out the placement of most of them but am still trying to solve the mystery of the remaining ones.
-
Sorry for the delay in doing a bit of follow up on the photo, items 6 and 8.
I believe those are for the 190 SL. Here is a link for the 190 SL group and the explanation of the sticker location for that car, and the stickers they reference are the ones you have in the numbered photo.

Is Bob Geco still around? Haven't seen any of his posts lately.
-
Bob last made a post in October 2015
For new members since then, Bob Geco, has/had a business making the engineering tags/decals for the Pagoda (and others I think - not sure of that).
-
Bob passed away last year http://www.hillsidememorial.org/obituaries/robert-warren-geco/827/ (http://www.hillsidememorial.org/obituaries/robert-warren-geco/827/)
Not many details about him.

I met Bob for first time I think at PUB some years ago then again at the Williamsburg, Virginia P-50 event. He flew from LA to Virginia just to be with us at P-50. Nice man and am sorry that he has passed away. At P-50 he did give me his catalog of Engineering labels/decals. The catalog has all the labels shown for the 280SL and the 280SECoupe and Cabriolet. He told me that he has did extensive research as to placement of the labels and was preparing a insert to the catalogue to show the placement locations of the labels, but I don't think he did this. Anyway sorry to hear the sad news.

I'm sorry to hear that. He made his last post here on the 24th of april 2015. He was keen on collecting all issues of Pagoda World, but his health was declining.
I know members come and go, but Bob was a character… it's one of the downsides of being an internet club that you notice these things too late.

Jonny, did you mean to type October 2014?
Rob' link above to the Obituaries shows Oct 9, 1955 ~ June 23, 2015
Something not right with the dates, unless it was a typo. Just asking.
I did not know Bob, may he RIP

I never met Bob but he was one of the first members here to reach out to me. I bought a few items over the years from him. My favorite was a water blade.
RIP Bob

Just checked his profile and it was shown - last active: October 7, 2015
-
Could have been his wife. If you notice his name was removed from the suppliers list. The Heritage Woodworks listing should also be removed as Drew Tibcken passed away in 2014 and I believe is no longer operating.

Correct. As I wrote, last post 24 April. I have (as I always do when this happens) disabled his email address so that PM's or mails do not bother his family.
It may have been a family member trying to cancel his account, which expired in Dec 2015.

Looks definitely like someone from his Family wanted to close his account.
My last post to Bob was a year ago when he posted his opinion on our membership fees. He never replyed to my post, perhaps he found my post too long.

His last post was in April 2015, he will be missed not only in our Group also in the 300sl forum. I understand he has been a member here since the Yahoo days of our site.
