Title: New Sneakers: Michelin Agilis from tirerack.com
Post by: Douglas on October 05, 2004, 15:50:25
Here's a photo of one of the tires I just purchased for my Pagoda. It's a Michelin Agilis 185 R-14, so it's the original 80 profile. The tire looks a bit more hi-tech than the previous set of Michelin Rainforce tires I had on my last SL, but they seem to ride well. Reasonably sporty feel with very little side-to-side give. (I'm sure the fact that I was driving on 25-year old Michelin XAS tires probably makes the comparison even more favorable.)

For those who prefer the white wall look Michelin does not offer it  on this paticular tire.  But don't frown because ther is a company that can add this feature to it or any other tire of your choice.    The name of the company is Diamond Back Classics.
BTW your car is looking really great Doug!

In the 70's Black Walls out was the way to go as they look better on most cars. Are white walls  out considered the original "factory look" on the 280 sl or were Black Walls?
Or is it just personal preferance?

Hello Mark.  When these cars were new they could be ordered with or without WW tires.  If WW were chosen this was an upgrade.  I prefer the look of the WW.  So it is up to you to decide what you like better.  If you are trying to duplicate the car as it came from the factory your data card will answer that question.
