Title: newbie question
Post by: 355chas on August 25, 2015, 22:27:09
I was wondering how much a non matching engine would hurt the value of a 280 SL
Im looking at one that has a rebuilt Metric Motors Longblock (8k bill)

Thanks and appreciate it.

In general, it will detract from it....

However, Metric has the Best reputation for rebuilding Mercedes engines; and the 113 in particular.

Right now? Next to nothing. If someone can show me where a buyer paid more at auction for a numbers matching car, then I will change my position. Since dealer's were allowed to stamp the original engine serial number on to a replacement block, it doesn't mean much.

When the value of 113's crosses over 300 - 500K then this will become more of an issue. I expect that to be at least a few years into the future.
