Title: Brake caliper sticking
Post by: Tiger John on August 19, 2015, 13:09:30
My 1967 250 SL (Early ....895) has a ongoing sticking caliper on passenger side rear.......have replaced caliper...still sticks....am now replacing all brake hoses...is the old hose the possible problem??

Old Brake hoses can swell on the inside and allow fluid to the caliper under pressure but will not release as easily due to the swollen hose restriction.

You can test by pressing the brake and making sure the brakes are sticking / binding --- then crack open the hose right at the stuck caliper --- if the caliper releases once fluid pours out, the problem is a restriction in the hose/pipe and if it does not release, the problem is at the caliper.

best of luck,

Oz

I recently noticed that I had an intermittent sticking calliper on the driver's side at rear. This prompted me to undertake a comprehensive revamp of the braking system.
This included replacing all 4 calipers, 4 brake hoses, brake pipes, 4 new discs and for good measure installing a new Master Brake cylinder as well.
Problem has been solved.

It could a damaged brake hose....
Have you also checked the condition of the disc?

Best,

Mike

I have seen the inner lining of a brake hose detach and act like a check valve allowing fluid to the caliper but not letting it release.

Does the rotor turn true or any play in the rear axle bearing on that side?
