Post by: n/a on October 04, 2004, 13:08:22
Can someone please tell me which oil (brand and density) should I use on my 69' 280SL manual gearbox?

Thank you very much for your responses!!!

Have a great day!!!

It sounds crazy, but the answer is synthetic automatic transmission fluid.

It is not crazy ...... The manual specifies ATF.  I also use synthetic (Mobil 1).  If you use gear lub (70W-90W), you will have difficulty shifting into first if you are still rolling.

Tranny fluid is what goes in to the gearbox but you can expect it to leak out.  Tough on asphalt drives and garage floor.

I have used both the 80-90 weight and the ATF fluid and shifting is easier with the ATF
