Title: Mid-Atlantic Gathering on October 24th
Post by: Tom on October 03, 2004, 21:39:47
Please join us for the 3rd Annual Northern Virginia W113 Gathering at my home in Alexandria, Virginia on Sunday, October 24th.  This is a “short-notice gathering” which should give you some indication that it is a more casual outing as contrasted with an “event”.  I am aware that this gathering will conflict with the MBCA Greater Washington Section Annual meeting, so please be aware and allocate your car time accordingly!  Our gathering has been held on the same Sunday for the past 3 years so the tradition continues.

This gathering proved popular the last 2 years as a number of pagoda owners showed up for some technical "triage" for minor ailments, fellowship and good chili.  A total of 15 cars and 22 owners attended last year (not counting neighbors I never met before!).

I am down one car this year, as I have my Tunis Beige car with Gernold in Maine.  However, the Tobacco Brown car with 13,800 miles will be here as well as the Dark Red R&D vehicle.

My garage and lift will be available for minor mechanical work.  Fellow owners will help other owners with issues they have, show their cars and see some interesting vintage accessories.   We will have ski racks, original luggage, a luggage rack and original trouble lights.  Original Continental tires with rub stripe will be on display.  Other than the 15 minutes taken to review accessories, there is no formal program.

Finally, hot chili and cider will again be the featured menu item.

Please e-mail me (classic280sl@yahoo.com) if you can attend and I will be in touch with details.

I thought that Mid Atlantic might mean the Azores not Virginia ;)

Hi Tom,

Gee that sounds great.  I think I can make it, but not the car...alas, I think it is about a 550 mile drive, but I can get to IAD (that's Dulles??) pretty inexpensively for a one-day jaunt.  What are the hours of this gathering?

Michael,

I drove to Columbus a couple of times in the Tunis Beige car and it was a pretty nice drive.  Your car is in fabulous shape-you could make this trip easy.

If time is a factor, however, I live about 10 minutes from National airport and about 40 minutes from BWI (Baltimore airport) and 40 minutes from IAD (Dulles).  There are so many regional carriers with good fares (Independence, Spirit, Midway, even Hooters) that fly into IAD and BWI.  Do a search using the airport code WAS and you will find the cheapest flight to all of the DC area airports.

We had a couple of long-drive out of town participants last year.  If needed, I can provide a couple of hotel suggestions.

For Malc, I agree that the Azores would make a fabulous venue for a "Mid-Atlantic" Pagoda Gathering!  Only downside is the salt air and rust!

Best,

Tom
