Hi.
I am restoring my 230 SL 66 model which had a "kind of" yellow color (I have acid bathed the car body). The car was repainted (in the late 90's) from its origin white. I really liked the car in yellow but I am not sure if "yellow" color(s) was painted on the Pagodas from the 60's.
Do anyone know if Pagodas was delivered in some shade of yellow?
Thanks

My car when I bought it was a light yellow hue. I am in the process of restoring the vehicle now and chose 172G Anthracite Grey Metallic. Here is a pic of my car before I sent it off to be restored. The technical manual on this site has a section on color codes. Perhaps you can find a match there. Do you have a picture of your car before you acid bathed it?

Was the yellow the original color. If so, then the code for the paint is on the small plate by the hood latch. It is a three digit code followed by either a "G" or an "H" (initials for the paint manufacturer, Glasurit or Herbets.

Hi,
The yellow "Stickel Pagode" has been known for some years here in Europe. I believe I first saw
the car displayed In TC Essen 5-6 years ago.
It was fully restored and painted in 378 Sonnengelb. (Sun yellow) appears to be an original color.

No,
Pagodas were never yellow,
at least this could not regularly be ordered.
Yellow, even Joachim Stickel's "Tweety" in 378 H Sonnengelb, was custom made, not factory.
Don't let you fool by the paint plate of his car; this is a reproduction and not original for this VIN 000123.
Joachim Stickel built up this very early car from scrap. It is his company car and he chose that funny and striking color only to effectively advertise his fine service.
There was a factory 280 SL painted in reflective signal yellow in the 60ies in order to investigate the conspicuity of such a car in the traffic during bad weather or so. This special car is well described in the usual MB literature.

Thanks for making that clear Achim. But was 378 H Sonnengelb an actual factory color that could have been special ordered back in the day?

Thanks all.
I realize that our car cannot continuing being yellow if we choose to paint it with an original W-113 color.
Attached some pictures of the car in various light and from the acid bath process.
Thanks again.

P.S. More questions will follow.

Yep, can see why you want to pick a new colour. The dipped body looks good.
