Title: transmission mount
Post by: badali on July 20, 2015, 17:50:43
I just finished changing the transmission mount.  I struggled through it in the garage floor.  I wish I had a lift to make things easier.  It took me about 2.5 hours.  I think this was the cause of the clunk when my car shifted.  See the pictures below.  Also the new mount installed before the plate went back on and the body number on the plate.  I notice different items that were number stamped have 2 , 3 or 4 numbers stamped on them.  The hood has 4,  The convertible top cover has 3 and this plate has only 2.

In talking with Gernold at SL TEch 113 in Me, He informed me that there is a small plate  along the left fender (in front of the brake booster)
it has about 3 lines of numbers. In the last line of numbers, at the end (Towards the Windshield) the last three numbers are used on parts thruout the car.
If you have different numbers on some parts then somebody has changed parts.

As to Mounts, engine and transmission etc . if you are in there always change them.

None of the parts have been changed.  My data plate has 04575.  The hood has 4575 the hard top has 4575 the soft top compartment has 575 and the transmission plate has 75.

My 230SL is similarly a numbers matching car.  If I recall, the data card even had numbers for the front axles, which were correct on my car.  I love fining little historic "Easter Eggs" like that!

Looks to me like  nothing has been changed.
So I assume you have the correct parts.

Tom,
My car has one change.  On the data plate paint line I have (050 G 050 G 5)  The 5 means hard top no soft top.  I bought a soft top and had it installed.  The soft top compartment was never used when I bought the car.  It had mounting bolts for the soft top.
