Hello!
My car is overheating and a radiator recore (among other things such as a new coolant pump, fan clutch, etc) has been recommended. Will a recored radiator detract from the car originality?
Thank you!

Not in my opinion, all our cars, in fact all Pagoda's (unless never ever driven) have seen maintenance work done at one time or another. If anyone would say that it does then I would say all our cars would ... We all had oil changes done and part of that service was a new filter and gaskets (not originally installed at the factory). So in my way of thinking recore of your radiator is maintenance. I had it done as well as a new fan clutch installed to deal with my overheating issue.
My 2 cents on the subject

Agree. It's a repair to an existing part not a capital improvement or change

Not as much as a new engine!

Years ago I hit a bump in the road, going about 15 mph. , and the car bottomed out, and the radiator leaked because of the hit. It hit bottom. That is when I noticed that our radiators hang down too low on our cars. Take a look and you will understand . I removed the hood and then the radiator and had it re-cored and shortened 2 inches in length. Our radiator shop is old school. He can order cores in any size. I told him what I wanted, and he pulled out the tape measure and ordered me a new one. It's still the same BEHR radiator. I notice no difference in function. I do not think it takes from anything. Our cars are not perfect. They are 50 years old. Re-coring them is a necessity. I think they set too low, and I fixed it my way. That is what I wanted.

Before re-coring try boiling and cleaning it. Any radiator shop can do that. I clean them with muriatic acid and hot water. Works quite well. If all this does not work, re-coring won't detract from originality. After all your car surely has 2015 air in its tires.
