Hello all,
I've got the vertical spare in my 230SL and the hold-down bracket hardware is missing. As can be seen in the photo, appears there was at one time something mounted to the boot frame that eventually fatigued and pulled loose (the "winged" bolt for the bracket screwed into this). I need to source the bracket and the winged bolt, and appears I'll also need to mount a nut once I determine tread dimensions of the bolt.
I found this particular spare tire bracket & winged bolt on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-w113-spare-tire-hold-bracket-/181796340995?hash=item2a53e80503&vxp=mtr.
Although it's advertised for a "W113" I still want to confirm that it is, in fact, correct for the early 230SL/W113 (I've never laid eyes on the correct bracket). Can someone in this Group please comment whether it appears correct for the early 230SL? If anyone has pictures of the nut that the winged bolt mounts to, I'd be grateful if you could post.
I've noticed there's a tab welded to the back side of the boot (see photo); anyone recall what this is used for? thanks, Charles

Can't help with the spare tire mounting.
The second photo is one of the mounting clips for use with the tie downs used for the fitted luggage.

Cheers Jonny,
Always wondered what that was ;D

Looks just like mine.. Tomorrow in the light of day I can post a pic if you like.. jack

Mine has more of a curve at the end furthest from the bolt - a poor photo below. If you want a better one let me know and I can delve in to the back of my garage and take one.

Herewith some better photos - hope they help.

thanks Julian, the photos are exactly what I needed. Your bracket does appear to have more of a curve at the end I but think it's just the angle of the shot in the eBay photo. I'll go ahead and pursue the bracket on eBay.
Jonny and Jack, thanks for your help and quick responses. Take care all,, Charles
