I am just about to have my 67 230SL painted. I am stripping all the chrome from the body. I noticed that the front grill does not have a gasket between it and the hood. It is also the case with the head lights bezel. Mercedes in the early 1970’s do have a gasket between the grill and the hood. I wonder if the pagoda’s grill was original made with no gasket. If so, is any one tried to install gasket behind the grill?

Use the search tab, with "grill felt" as the string. Limit the search to topics only and you should have two hits, and they should provide the answer you are looking for.

No gasket around the grill, just masking tape. No gasket, or tape, on the headlights either

Thank you for your suggestions. After digging into the forum, I found that a cloth medical, or cloth electrical tape made by 3 M are the best to use.

Contrary to what I had posted some time ago many currently available medical tapes stick well to skin but less so to other surfaces. Also they are frequently now a mixture of poly and cloth.
I have recently retaped the speedometer and tachometer and used tape produced in Canada to wrap hockey sticks that looks quite good: eBay item number:221776736511
Another popular one is Renfrew tape: eBay item number:141539244461
