Title: Setting Parameters for Ignition Distributor 009
Post by: Pawel66 on June 02, 2015, 21:39:59
Hello,
I think I did my homework on the Formu as well as in Technical Manual including Tune up section - but I cannot find setting parameters for distributor with marking ending 009. Since it is not, as I read, in the BBB - I have difficulties to figure out what the settings should be.

Anyone can provide those?

By the way: a picture from my first drive after 3 years of blood, sweat and tears... And after it she is grounded again :)

Hi, Pawel,

The 009 is a replacement for the 051 distributor
So use specs for the 051.

thanks for the reply.

I have an alloy body distributor (009) in my pagode from 69.
I have no CD ignition but i do have a electric box between coil and distributor. (forgot the name, but something more new that keeps the contacts from burning)
Dwell currently set at 30°.
Your dwell is also 30°?

Car runs wel, only cold start is terrible. Cold start valve runs great, fuel pump is adapted to low model and pressure is fine.

Any comment to that?

Paweł,

Great seeing that you and the product of your sweat, blood and tears are both roadworthy ;D

Having a quick look at the photo, I can see that your first drive brought you to the grocery shop Piotr&Pawel (sic!) located 171 Warszawska street, 05-510 Konstancin-Jeziorna, Eastern side parking spot looking towards the American School of Warsaw ;D

Hope it was to buy a bottle of good champagne to celebrate that event!

Staszek,

That picture was taken 2 years ago!  :) Yes, all the details of the place are correct! I have tears in my eyes when I recal lthat drive, really first one: FIP was reveresed 180 degrees, switches on gearbox not working, vacuum leaking from the brakes booster, stuck steering knuckle, noisy differential, blinker working sometimes only, rattling everywhere, fuel leaking, ignition out of tune, idle out of tune - that was fun! Two pages of remarks and items to fix - over winter...

No, no chamapagne - I was born and raised on vodka... ;)

Last Saturday, the first probably so warm and nice this year, I was also parking on the same spot  8). Used Pagoda as every day driving car all day Saturday and Friday.

Lex, I am not a mechanic, so my advise may not be of value really...

But look at this: https://www.sl113.org/wiki/Electrical/TransistorIgnition

I think it talks '69 280SL. I think you have the components you mentioned described there, so it might be that your dwell is ok (but this is only what SEEMS correct to me - I cannot provide responsible advise with my knowledge level). This dwell, I think, needs to work with specific coil that can load in shorter time if I understand correctly. My dwell was different as I do not have the above mentioned elements (it was 38 degrees).

The system with the box under the battery helps during the start (resistor bypass for better spark), but I am not sure if its malfunction affects only the cold start. You would need educated voice here. You have the test procedure there.

For cold start there is also a number of aids in your car to look at... I have recently spotted the issue with my Thermo Time Switch that was not providing voltage to CSV when cold. But it is another thread, I guess and you say your CSV works.

Aluminium 6 cylinder distributors should be set at 30 degrees dwell - cast iron units are set at 38 degrees.
