Title: Battery in the UK
Post by: Markbhai on May 26, 2015, 15:31:43
Hi.

My battery is getting ready for replacement, MB-UK would like me to pay £209, which seems excessive.  I have looked on the Varta website to determine the best one to buy and the search facility tells me the Silver Dynamic 563 400 061 is the one for our cars, but I don't see anything in the technical info to indicate it is reverse polarity (or whatever it is we need).

Does anyone have any experience with these batteries, or can anyone recommend a good quality replacement battery.

Here is the link to the Varta website... http://www.varta-automotive.com/en-gb/search-batteries?ids=5634000613162,560901068D852,5604080543132&application=pc&year=1967&manufacturerNo=74&modellineNo=538&modeltype=720

All advice gratefully accepted.

Cheers

Mark.

Hi, Mark,

I have a Varta D15 which is what I think you have found.
It has the correct orientation of the battery terminals.

Since you have your wallet out, you may want to go for the AGM battery?

i am in the same boat. i actually have a fairly new battery but only 500a crank and it just wont do the job. i need something with a bit more oomph as it wont start it.
how did the varta go ?

more importantly if i had my wallet out is there anything better ? what was the AGM model ?

Hi,
Norbert from the German Pagodentreff.de provided a list of possible batteries, see attachment.
I would prefer a Berga, e.g. 560 408 054 7902; in Germany ~ 72€.
My experiences with Varta for my motorbike are really bad.

About 14 months ago I purchased a Fulmen  Battery (made by Exide) model #FA640 - 64Ah 640A .
Terminals are correctly orientated and it fits  perfectly, I'm very pleased and no complaints.

Best,
Mike

Maybe you should consider changing to the high HP starter to get faster cranking.

As I said, I use the Varta D15 batteries in my Pagodas and Golfs.
We also sell Varta batteries in our business and get hardly any warranty claims.

I am withdrawing my comment about the AGM battery. They have higher output but cost about double!
They are meant for the latest cars with start/stop technology.

think i am looking at the varta and at the AGM battery and be done with it.
looks like i have a head gasket gone which might explain some of why she doesnt fancy starting that well. i have emulsion pouring out the dipstick and looks like a kettle at the back
