Hello Folks,
While my engine is out I am taking the opportunity to replace the parts that are obviously worn out.... so I have bought new motor mounts. The right one was torn apart which is not uncommon from what I read here.
My supplier told me that the bolt that is sitting in the sub frame and going upwards, exists in 2 lengths and that I may have to shorten the ones that he gave me. From what I can tell at first sight, mine look a bit long indeed, I.e. 84mm, the head included. To show you want I am talking about, I add a pic and the drawing... it is the bolt nr 6. I don't want to make a mistake if I am going to shorten them. Does anybody know how long they should be?
Many thanks!!

Hello Jan,
The bolts you have look incorrect. Normally the bolts have a long shoulder and a short length of thread. The bolts you have look like the correct bolt for the rear motor mounts used on the earlier Mercedes "ponton" sedans and the 190SLs.

Thanks Joe... that sounds like shortening them is not going to be right. I ll try to find the correct ones.

Joe is right about the bolts. That flat washer is probably welded on to the bolt head. If so, it is a rear Ponton mount bolt. I just replaced the ones on my '60 220SE a couple of weeks ago. Those bolts are fully threaded for a reason.

You might want to check your sub frame mounts. Especially if they are original.
Enjoy when finished.
