Does anyone have any information on the ZF 5-speed which came in my 230sl. What model number ZF is this? I'm looking for a parts diagram so I can identify and look for whatever is making my linkage sloppy going into first gear, and just to have for future reference. Any internet sites or other info on this tranney would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John

ZF factory web with diagrams and also spare part kits available

You can buy a workshop manual (reprint) for instance here:

I think you will find that the shift mechanism is the same as a normal 4 speed box.
Only the lengths of the operating and support rods are shorter.
Check the tech manual for list of parts etc. Note: Early 230s had a couple of bushes different from late cars.
Hope this helps

John, Just found this post while doing some research, but I too have a ZF 5-speed (retrofitted in a 280 SL) and just did the shifter bushing renewal using a kit for the 4-speed transmission. The bushings are the same, and what a difference. Mine had gotten so bad that I couldn't engage reverse. Got mine at Buds Benz, but everyone has a bushing kit. Some research required, but an afternoon project. Good luck.
