Title: Replacement quartz clock
Post by: Bob G ✝︎ on September 17, 2004, 15:33:19: Some of us may be restoring our cars and may have replaced our old clocks with the new quartz type replacement by VDO. I would like to compare to see if their are any notable differences and how well the new quartz type clocks are working.
Any pictures of the newer clock face would be most welcome .

Post by: Cees Klumper on September 17, 2004, 15:37:41: Hi Bob. I put in one of these two years ago and it's been working perfectly ever since. Keeps time as you would expect from a quartz clock. The face is identical to the original one, except that it does say, in small typeface, "quartz". I will try to remember taking a photo in the near future.
Since I am personally not a stickler for detail/originality, I am quite happy with this clock for the time being. Still, I would like to have my original rebuilt one of these days, but at the moment it is not a high priority.

Post by: mdsalemi on September 17, 2004, 15:51:19: Palo Alto Speedometer (and others I'm sure) just change the movement. Mine was converted to quartz and other then the fact that it keeps perfect time and will probably last forever, you can't tell it from the original.

Post by: mbzse on September 18, 2004, 15:35:24: I personally feel the "whirr-tock" sound every third minute or so is a great feature in our classic cars... so I fix the original, electromechanical Kienzle clocks in my old M-B's

I do believe the Quartzeit clocks for our W113's are available via your local M-B dealer. If not, SLS have them. Price some 400 Euros.
