Title: no power
Post by: reg on February 12, 2015, 04:56:25
have a problem with performance when cold.  My 1966 230sl starts fine but when I try to drive away there is no power.  I have let it warm up for 5 minutes but when I press on the accelerator there is nothing.  Eventually after lots of feathering it will start to move.. After a couple of starts from a stop it is fine.  Only a problem when cold.  Any obvious places to start would help.   Thanks  a new member  Reg

Sounds like maybe a problem with the warm-up mixture, as if only one of the two variables (air/fuel) is actually richer and the other one not. So I would check both during the warm-up phase. Just a guess, I'm sure others with better technical knowledge will have better advice.

Reg

I think others on this forum would be able to help much more efficiently and targeted if you would provide some basic details and some history.

-- auto or Manuel
--- ran fine yesterday or been sitting for 20 years
--- "pressing accelerator and nothing" elaborate
---- what has been done to the car recently?
----- what have you already checked?

This will help those with knowledge here help you.

Just my two cents.

Thanks for the input   i have checked the CSV and am going to go over the WRD.  The problem is improving.  A very strange feeling,  the engine starts  and idles fine but does nothing when you press the accelerator till it warms up..   side note the car is an automatic.   maybe just the old story of lack of use  Thanks Reg   will post results when I have sorted it out
