I am looking to order a new steering wheel from the MB Classic Center. My car is a 1966 230sl and according to the forums detailed info on the steering wheel my car should use a type II wheel. The part number I recieved from MB is 115-464-03-01 Can anyone confirm that this is the correct wheel that I need to offer. I want to ensure that the wheel I order is an exact match for the car. On a side note I'm looking to restore my seat belts as well. They have red webbing. Has anyone had luck finding a place that sells similar webbing?
Thanks

I can confirm that it is the WRONG steering wheel. That part number corresponds to a late 250 SL and all 280 SL steering wheel (Type III as shown here: http://www.sl113.org/wiki/Interior/SteeringWheel ) Attached is an image from EPC of the steering wheel and steering column for that part number. I don't think your 230 SL has this type of steering column...
I believe that the correct part number for your steering wheel is 112 460 0203 (in black) or _maybe_ 112 460 0303 or 112 460 0503 in ivory.
On a side note I'm looking to restore my seat belts as well. They have red webbing. Has anyone had luck finding a place that sells similar webbing?
Do you have 3-point kangols in RED??? Or do you have lap belts in Red (Hickok brand probably). To the best of my knowledge, I'm the only one who has had red Kangols fabricated. I'll probably do it again at some point but it isn't something you see typically. I had 2 sets created and they both sold to overseas buyers. I do not have access to the webbing. Only my guy who does the work for me has access to the webbing.

Scott,
thanks for the wheel info I will look into those part numbers. I have red lap belts and they are in fact Hickok. Do you have the name of the guy you use to redo them? Thanks

I do but he doesn't want me sharing it with people. So I guess he's my asset.

Try this company: http://www.ssnake-oyl.com/
they sell red webbing and restore old belts.

If they have it in the correct width that's the way to go. Lots of people sell what they call "seat belt webbing" that is really for backpacks and tents. Ssnake-oyl has a good reputation.

W113bkk,
If you want to get it "right" you will have to order at least the horn ring by chassis number as it changed somewhere along the way from completely round to "flattened" on top. Don't know if anything else changed mid-year. There was a discussion of this a short while back, you may want to search the threads.
Best,

You don't want the round horn ring and you aren't going to find it anyway. The correct flat chrome one is available and not particularly expensive on ebay.

Thanks guys. I am going to order the steering wheel and have my horn ring re chromed.

Thanks guys. I am going to order the steering wheel and have my horn ring re chromed.
I was selling perfect flat chrome rings for $50. Consider buying one on ebay (if you can find one) because for whatever reason that isn't a difficult part to get. If you have a ROUND chrome ring, THAT is much more difficult...
-
I think I have one of those round horn rings but it's not n a 230SL so I'm not sure it's the same. It's not like the 190SL ring so maybe it's the same part.

My seatbelts with webbing from SSnake-Oyl . Good service and communication.

I bought a black steering wheel with horn ring, from this vendor on eBay, to replace the cracked one on my 280SL:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/kbrihr/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25&_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2654
Great service and I am very pleased, it's just about mint. I paid about €270- compared to +€500- from Niemoller and others.
Best,
Mike

That's also the wrong style horn ring. That's type 3.
As for the pics of the nice belts from snakeol, those are not Kangols and I don't think they are the same width.

Just to clarify, it is the correct one for Mike K's car (1971 280SL) but the wrong one for bkk.
